A player is underno obligation to bear off if he can make an otherwise legal move and if theplayer does not have a checker on the point indicated by the roll, theofficial rules of backgammon state that the player must make a legal moveusing a checker on a higher-numbered point.
A playermust have all of his active checkers in his home board in order to bear off. Ifa checker is hit during the bear-off process, the player must bring thatchecker back to his home board before continuing to bear off. The first playerto bear off all fifteen checkers wins the game.
Backgammonrules state that all games be played for an agreed stake per point, withthe minimum stake being one point. A player who feels he has a strong advantagecan request to double the stakes at any time during the course of the game. However the official rules ofbackgammon only allow the player to do this before his own turn and thedice has been rolled. The opponent may then choose to decline the double andforfeit the game. The official rules of backgammon state that he loseshis stake. The stakes can beredoubled without limit.
